cPanel

cPanel is an interface used by some hosting providers such as HostGator, JustHost, and WebhostingPad.  If your provider uses cPanel, these directions will help you set up your CNAME.

How to add a CNAME with a cPanel control panel:

  1. Log in to your account with your particular hosting provider.
  2. Find the window entitled 'Domains.'
  3. Click on 'Simple DNS Zone Editor' - This will take you to a control panel.Domains.png
  4. In the control panel you will see a section titled 'Add a CNAME Record':CNAME.png
  5. In the 'Name' field of this section, type the name of your chosen subdomain.  For example, if you picked promos.mydomain.com as your custom domain, enter promos here. Or, if you're using a root domain such as www.mydomain.com then you'll want to enter www here.  cPanel automatically fills in the rest of your URL.
  6. In the 'CNAME' field, type  unbouncepages.com.
  7. Click the 'Add CNAME Record' button at the bottom.

You can now return to your unbounce account and set up your custom subdomain by going to your dashboard and clicking account>custom subdomains and following the steps.

Keep in mind that these kinds of changes take a certain amount of time to propagate across the internet.  You may have to wait up to 24 hours before you see your changes take effect.

Hey Nick - We put together some BlueHost CNAME record set up instructions for you.  Hopefully that helps you get your custom domain up and running but let us know if you have any other questions.

WebhostingPad also no longer uses the Simple DNS Zone Editor.  They have simplified the domain section down to just the first 4 things shown in the above photo.  Any advice on how to setup the CNAME with their current format?

Hi Stephanie - In that case you may need to email WebHostingPad's support team for help since you need access to either the Simple or Advanced DNS Zone Editor to edit your DNS.  They should be able to create the record for you.

For a set of written instructions to email to them, go Account > Custom Domains, access the gear menu corresponding to the custom domain in question and select Show set-up Instructions then click Click here for a pre-written email. This will provide precise instructions for you to send to their technical support team.

Hi,

It doen't work for me because my cPanel says that I can use "www" CNAME because the domain is already in use. The thing is that I used the domain before with a WP installation in my hosting but now I'm just want to use for my unbounce pages. I've erase al the DNS records and also the folders of this domains but it doen't work. Any idea?

Hey Gonzalo - if cPanel says the domain is already in use, it sounds like there's probably an existing A record created for the "www" subdomain. If that's the case, just delete the existing A record and you should then be able to create the CNAME record. Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

Hi Ryan. Thanks, it didn't work but finally I get it, the domain was in the "additional domains" list, so the solutions is to remove the domain from that list. Thanks for your help!
