How do I group page elements to move together or duplicate?

Group page elements to move together

To select multiple objects, simply hold down the Shift key and click on each object you want to select.  You should see a selection box surround the objects and can then move them as one group.

Group page elements to duplicate

While you cannot yet duplicate a selection of multiple objects, you can achieve the same functionality by adding a box element to your page and dragging the objects you wish to duplicate into this box.  These other elements (text, image, buttons etc.) will become children of the box – which means if you duplicate the box, all of it’s contained elements will be duplicated as well.

Some sort of grouping feature would be very valuable. My first live page has buttons that skew far to the right on a wide browser window, far from the accompanying text. It's using the default orange buttons, so creating a new box won't help.

Agreed - it's quite inconvenient to move multiple things around without the ability to group things.

Agreed too - please bring the grouping feature!

Agreed four—grouping would be invaluable. A lot of time is lost moving items one by one and nearly caused me to select a different platform because of the time investment. (and I really didn't want to leave b/c I love Unbounce)

Update for you on this. We are currently working on a multiple-select feature which will make this much easier. I'll stick my neck out and say it'll be released within a month. :)

Awesome, looking forward to it! Don't hurt your neck too much ;)

Lol. I have to keep it moving fast to avoid the wrath of the development team (as they cringe at my timeline statements)

(*Laughing*) Next request: Adding the "People Found This Helpful" thumbs-up button to all comments in a thread...I would have just used it!

The ability to select multiple elements to move them together is complete and awaiting testing and QA. Sorry we don't publicly state release dates for features since they can change depending on what issues we encounter during development and testing, but this feature will be out soon along with a number of other usability improvements.

thanks

How is that multiple-select feature going?

Hello Magne - you can already select multiple objects by holding down the shift key.  Try it out and let me know how it goes.

Yeah, I know that. But what i want is a quick way to select multiple objects, like Wayne suggested: "Some sort of grouping feature would be very valuable."

I.e. to assign objects to a group / main element, so that whenever i move that element I move all the rest, without having to select them every time.

Now, when I have for instance 10 object I want to move from time to time, I have to single handidly click every one of them every time, before I move them all.
I recently redid the entire landing page with the box element hack, but it's still a hack, with some artefacts.

Ah, I hear what you're saying.  One way you can achieve that right now is with a box.  If you add a box to your page, then add the elements you want grouped into that box, selecting the box will, in effect, select all the objects contained within it.  Let me know if that helps.

Yeah, I'm already using that box element hack, as said. It has some artefacts/bugs though.

Fair enough.  Thank you for the grouping feedback though, I'll be sure to share it with our product team.

Hi Magne, would you mind providing more detail about the artefacts/bugs you are experiencing using the box method?

Sure:
1. Sometimes when moving an item outside a box, it's still attached to the box. It does not indicate that it's possible to attach it to the background or the other box you place the item over.
2. When trying to group together elements, you make a new transparent box which circumscribes the elements. The problem is that this box is placed "on top" of the elements, so you have to move everything to another place, put it in the box, and then put the box back again. That's cumbersome.
3. Sometimes you want to connect several groups of items together. You can chain them with boxes, but for the chaining to work, you'd have to extend the previous box so that is at least twice the size (i think) of the next box, for the next box to be allowed to be placed inside (and hence connected to) the previous box.

I realise this is an old comment but.... is there still no "grouping" feature a la photoshop, powerpoint?

Thanks for the box suggestion, I'm sure that will help.  But as previously noted, that can be a bit cumbersome.

Hey Lori - boxes are really the only way to group content. You can select multiple objects at once but to form an actual group, boxes are your best bet.

Hmm, more then two years later and there is still no grouping feature available? Are you still planning to implement this feature guys?

Hey Manuel — grouping elements is still on a list with a number of other improvements we'd like to make in the page builder. That being said, it's lower down than many of the other priorities we are hard at work on. One of those is allowing you to adjust the opacity for an element (this should be released shortly) and much bigger than that: the ability to build responsive pages. I apologize that we still can't give you an ETA on this specific feature, but we do make every effort we can to constantly re-evaluate priorities so that our team is focused on the most important wins.

Please consider this: I would argue that it is more important to make your product usable to the users you currently have, and give them a good experience, rather than chase new opportunities. Fundamentals should come first. Customer Retention beats Acquisition for this type of product, imho.

I don't see how allowing adjusting opacity should be a higher priority than allowing grouping and moving several elements around together, which is such a common use case. Since without grouping, it makes the product really frustrating to use. (Imagine dragging X amount of boxes around, and aligning them again and again.) It's just my opinion on the matter. It's your priority to make.

PS: Thanks for making an otherwise very useful and simple product. :-)

Disclosure: free user of U/B looking for reasons to pay.

Please, please, please add Grouping/Layers.

Please also consider aligning (like in Illustrator/InDesign etc, with vertical left/right/middle and horizontal top/middle/bottom)

Thanks!

I agree grouping is a very necessary feature. I have a line of quotations in talk bubbles, the pictures and names of the people they are associated with, and I can't move them all down the page as one unit. Very annoying. The methods you offer so far are a non-solution.

I've learned to build text/image/bullet combinations inside of transparent boxes so that I can easily move them around if needed. I also use page sections for every new build on the page so it's easy to move things up and down. Its definitely not the best solution however, it's the only solution for now until Unbounce builds a grouping feature.
